Blog 273: 5 Strategies for the Summer Pause

Updated: Dec 13, 2022

Well, here in the southern interior of British Columbia summer is in full swing. It is a fantastic time of the year.

It reminds me that the summer is a good time for some pause and reflection on our business. Five activities for you to consider are:

Give Your Head a Shake

The time is now to check in with your head game. Perspective and success are primarily a result of your inner dialogue. If it has been a while since you last did it, give yourself a check-up from the neck up.

Innovation Ahoy

Revisit an important part of your business and see if there is anywhere to innovate. Get on it now before the lazy days of summer are over. Innovation is the key to the long-term health of your business and innovating now will allow you to Accelerate through the summer and fall.

The Strategic Imperative

Strategy is the key element to working on your business instead of working in it. When was the last time you shed some light on your business strategy? If it has been a while then you should spend some quiet time assessing the big question, “What business are you in?” Once you have an answer then look at what your business is actually doing and then start moving away from non-strategic activities and spending more time, energy and money on the things that will propel you forward.

Business Desires

Business outcomes/objectives are different from strategy. So it is worth the time to make sure that your business goals are stated and are SMART (Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant and have a Timeframe).

Personal Desires

“All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.” Remember life is meant for living. What are you doing to enrich your life and the lives of those around you? The YMCA was founded on the motto of a healthy Mind, Body and Spirit. What are you doing to be the best version of yourself?????

So there you have it: get your head in the game, unleash some innovation, get strategic, and get on with pursuing some business and personal desires. Use Summer to do these things NOW and you will reap the rewards for the rest of the year.
