Blog 193: Success Without Burnout Steps 13-16

Updated: May 12, 2022

I am up here at the lake with Tom, getting ready for our workshop retreat with a group of victims from Boston.

They are coming up to blow the muck off the top of their brains, define a deeper purpose for their work, and learn an important secret from Tom and I that will change them and their business forever. Before I slip into full time host, I’m taking a moment on the porch, writing a blog and listening to the softly falling rain. I’m meditating.

Let’s agree that all the money in the world isn’t any fun if you’re no fun, and that burnout is serious. First, you burn out, which is serious. Then you breakdown, which can be devastating.

Here we go …

13. Give a gift.

Get involved in something where your time and talent will be a gift. The greatest reward in the world is helping someone else. Share your talents and your knowledge. It’s addictive. It will also make you happier.

I love talking to young people who want to be entrepreneurs, I have all the time in the world to tell them what I know. When the world is back to being more open, I’m going to look for a volunteer opportunity where I can mentor young entrepreneurs.

14. Eliminate unhelpful thoughts.

Be aware of what you are thinking about, and make a conscious effort to think positively and challenge your feelings. “The central method for achieving a happier life is to train your mind in a daily practice that weakens negative attitudes and strengthens positive ones.” - The Dali Lama

15. Cultivate Positive Thoughts

This is similar to, but not the same, as the point above. I visualize as a strategy, and have all my life. I don’t necessarily or always picture big epic things, like seeing all of my family on a big once-in-a-lifetime trip. I may just picture myself having a quiet cup of coffee on the deck, or imagine being rested and peaceful in an airport. Then I think about what would have to happen for me to get to that quiet cup of coffee or to be rested and content sitting in an airport. Which leads me to thinking about doing good work, and helping people and feeling pride etc. I know, it sounds simple but it’s amazing. Try it.

16. Treat your body right.

You had to know this was coming … Go to bed earlier, eat healthier, and go online to get a little 15-minute exercise routine going. Lunges, squats, some push-ups and curls and throw a plank in there.

For now, that’s great. Do that every day for a while, then add to it. For now, just start and be happier. Per point 13, if you want my help with this let me know: dmw@moseleywilliams.com
